Biography

Huw Jones is an Associate Professor in Film Studies at the University of Southampton, where he has been teaching since 2017. With an interdisciplinary background that spans humanities and social sciences, his research primarily focuses on contemporary British and European cinema, specifically examining film industry dynamics and audience engagement. He completed his undergraduate degree in Geography at Swansea University in 2001, followed by a Master's in Cultural Geography at Royal Holloway, University of London, with distinction. His PhD research funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council centered on Welsh art history, exploring the visual arts in post-war Wales. Huw has worked on various projects, including as a Research Assistant at the University of Glasgow and the University of South Wales, focusing on the cultural policy and media studies. He was part of the HERA-funded MeCETES project, investigating the transnational production and reception of European films. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he has contributed to the field through journal articles and book chapters, including his forthcoming book "Transnational European Cinema: Representation, Audiences, Identity" published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2024.
