Biography

Hwa-Jin Kim is the L. Bates Lea Global Professor of Law at the University of Michigan Law School. He joined the faculty as a William W. Cook Global Law Professor in 2011. Prior to his current role, Kim taught at Seoul National University School of Law, NYU Law Shanghai, Tel Aviv University, and Stanford Law School. With a robust background in corporate securities law, he has practiced law both in Korea and Switzerland, advising various global investment banking houses on international mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and capital market transactions. His extensive board experience includes serving as the chair of the board of directors at Samsung Securities and as an independent director at Hyundai Mobis. Kim has also chaired the corporate governance committee of Korea’s National Pension Service and advised numerous governmental bodies in Korea on financial and legal matters. He has published in prominent journals and authored several influential books on International Law and Corporate Governance, marking significant contributions to the field.
