Biography

Hwa Kian Chai is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh, specializing in Civil Environmental Engineering. He has spent years as a researcher and engineer in both Malaysia and Japan before joining the University of Edinburgh. Hwa has amassed significant experience in research and application in structures and construction materials, with specific focuses on structural repair and retrofit, low carbon cementitious materials, and non-destructive evaluation of structures. He is a Chartered Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, as well as a Senior Member of the International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems, and Structures (RILEM).
