Dr. Hydar Ali

Biography

Hydar Ali is a faculty member at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in Immunology and Pharmacology. He received his B.Sc. from University College London in 1982 and his Ph.D. from the University of London in 1986. His research focuses on mast cells, which are tissue-resident cells involved in host defense, allergic reactions, and neurogenic inflammation. Studies in his lab investigate the roles of mast cells in drug-induced pseudo-allergy and their involvement in conditions like anaphylaxis and allergic contact dermatitis. Dr. Ali's work also explores the activation of mast cells via receptors such as MRGPRX2, which is linked to various pathologic conditions. His contributions to the field include published research on the mechanisms of mast cell activation and its implications for allergy and immunology treatment strategies.
