Dr. Hyekyung Choo

Biography

Hyekyung Choo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work at the National University of Singapore. With a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Social Work from Temple University, she has contributed significantly to the field of social work education and research since joining NUS in 2005. Her work primarily focuses on social work research methods, program evaluation, and the dynamics of social networks and support systems. Choo has developed and taught several modules at both undergraduate and graduate levels, emphasizing hands-on, project-based learning experiences for her students. Her research interests are particularly centered on the health risk behaviors among children and adolescents, especially those related to internet gaming disorder. Over the years, she has co-led large-scale longitudinal studies involving thousands of participants and has published extensively in high-impact journals. As a dedicated educator, Choo is actively involved in supervising doctoral students and co-chairs the NUS Inter-Professional Education program, which fosters collaborative learning among students from diverse health disciplines. She remains committed to empowering students by enhancing their research capabilities and developing relevant social service interventions.
