Hyesun Choung is an Assistant Professor in the Brian Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her research focuses on lay psychology regarding artificial intelligence, particularly examining how people make sense of, evaluate, and respond to AI systems in communicative contexts. Choung is particularly interested in the social and ethical implications of AI, especially questions surrounding trust, fairness, and the social legitimacy of algorithmic decision-making. Her ongoing projects explore aspects of human–AI collaboration, perceptions of generative AI, and how individuals attribute qualities such as trust, morality, and fairness to AI systems. Before joining Purdue University, she served as a postdoctoral research associate at Michigan State University.
