Dr. Hyo Jick Choi

Biography

Hyo-Jick Choi is a Professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta. With a solid foundational background in Ceramic Engineering from Yonsei University, he pursued advanced studies in Biomedical Engineering at UCLA and University of Cincinnati. His postdoctoral research at Georgia Institute of Technology under Dr. Mark Prausnitz significantly shaped his academic journey. Dr. Choi's research focuses on the development of integral biomedical solutions, notably in the fabrication of antimicrobial materials and cold chain-free solid oral vaccines. Through his innovative work, he has contributed to public safety and global health initiatives, particularly in addressing pandemic challenges. With a strong commitment to translational research, he has successfully commercialized numerous technologies resulting in the establishment of a start-up company. Additionally, he serves on the Editorial Board of Scientific Reports and leads the Association of Korean-Canadian Scientists and Engineers, fostering international research collaborations. Dr. Choi’s work integrates materials science with biomedical engineering to address global health issues, making him a pivotal figure in his field.
