Biography

Hyunhee Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Counseling Program at the Johns Hopkins School of Education. She received her PhD from Penn State University. Before becoming a counselor educator, Hyunhee gained professional counseling experience working with children, adolescents, college students, and adults in various school and community settings. As a school counselor educator, she is interested in theory-informed school counseling practices that promote students' academic success and social-emotional well-being, as well as college and career readiness. Her research particularly focuses on identifying protective factors that help students thrive, regardless of the adversities they encounter. Hyunhee serves as a leadership fellow for the Evidence-Based School Counseling Conference and is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Counseling Development, as well as for Counseling Scholarship & Practice in Educational Communities.
