Dr. Iadine Chades

Biography

Iadine Chades is a Professor at the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University, where she directs the Environmental Informatics Hub. Her research is at the forefront of linking domain sciences—such as ecology, epidemiology, and social sciences—with advanced quantitative tools in artificial intelligence (AI). She has developed innovative methods for smart decision-making under uncertainty and resource constraints. Initially focusing on Markov decision processes (MDP) applied to mobile robotics, her research shifted in 2006 to the integration of AI with ecological and economic models to solve complex applied problems in conservation science. Chades is recognized as an international leader in interdisciplinary research that combines AI with decision science to address critical environmental and societal challenges. She has a proven track record of building and leading interdisciplinary teams to address multifaceted problems in collaboration with various stakeholders. Her major contributions include pioneering developments in AI for biodiversity conservation, with significant impacts on policy implementation, particularly in Australia. Iadine is actively seeking passionate PhD candidates with a strong mathematical and computer science background to pursue research in artificial intelligence for environmental applications, especially in biodiversity conservation.
