Biography

Iain Clark is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at UC Berkeley. His research focuses on the intersection of bioinstrumentation, biomaterials, and nanotechnology, particularly in the realm of systems synthetic biology. His lab develops innovative microfluidic molecular methods aimed at high-throughput analysis of single cells. A significant area of study includes HIV latency and the profiling of CD4 T cells to understand cellular interactions and inflammation within the central nervous system. Dr. Clark completed his PhD in Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley in 2014, following an MS in Biosystems Engineering from UC Davis in 2009 and a BS in Biological Engineering from Cornell University in 2003. He has undergone extensive training including a postdoctoral fellowship at UCSF in Bioengineering from 2015 to 2020 and a fellowship at Harvard Medical School from 2017 to 2020. In recognition of his contributions to the field, he was awarded the Women’s Brain Initiative Fellowship in 2019. Through his work, Dr. Clark aims to advance understanding and treatment modalities for neurological conditions by harnessing the potential of synthetic biology techniques.
