Biography

Iain McIntyre is an honorary fellow in the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies. He is a researcher, author, editor, and broadcaster with a focus on the history of social movements, music, and popular culture. He has authored and edited twelve books, including notable titles such as Environmental Blockades: Obstructive Direct Action and the History of the Environmental Movement and Knocking The Top Off: A People's History of Alcohol in Australia. His PhD was awarded the Dennis-Wettenhall Prize in Australian History at the University of Melbourne in 2018. In recent years, his project Beats, Ballads and Ballrooms was recognized with a nomination for a Victorian Community History Digital Storytelling award. He is also a recipient of the 2022 Aurealis Conveners Award for Excellence and the 2022 Locus Magazine Award for Non-Fiction for his collaboration on Dangerous Visions and New Worlds. McIntyre has been involved with the Commons Social Change Library since 2019, contributing extensively to its resources and activities.
