Biography

Iain McNeish is the Chair of Oncology and the Head of the Division of Cancer at the Department of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College London. He is also the co-director of the School of Convergence Science in Health and Technology and the Director of the Ovarian Cancer Action Research Centre. He plays a significant role in the Imperial National Institute for Health Research Biomedical Research Centre, serving as co-lead of the Imperial Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre. Outside of his local responsibilities, he is the director of Gynaecological Cancer Trials UK and the Gynaecologic Cancer InterGroup. After training in medicine at the University of Oxford and completing postgraduate training in Glasgow and Birmingham, he became an MRC Senior Clinical Fellow at Barts Cancer Institute. He previously held the position of Professor of Gynaecological Oncology at the University of Glasgow before returning to Imperial in 2018. His research primarily focuses on ovarian cancer, aiming to enhance therapies and deepen the understanding of disease biology. He leads the BriTROC translational research collaborative, exploring copy number alterations in ovarian high-grade serous carcinoma as potential prognostic and predictive biomarkers. His group has developed novel transplantable murine models of high-grade serous carcinoma with CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology, facilitating the investigation of new therapies in an immunocompetent model. In clinical practice, he focuses on ovarian and endometrial cancers and serves as an honorary consultant in medical oncology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2022.
