Biography

Ian Coulson joined the University of Regina in 2000 and has served in various academic and administrative leadership roles. He is currently the Associate Dean (Undergraduate) and a Professor in the Faculty of Science. He has held the position of Head of the Department of International Languages from 2022 to 2025 in the Faculty of Arts. Ian is also the Director of electron microbeam facilities. He completed the URLeading program sponsored by the Dean in 2018-19, focusing on leadership development. He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Portsmouth and his PhD from the University of Birmingham. Ian has held post-doctoral appointments at the University of British Columbia and Queen’s University, and was a visiting professor at Universität Tübingen in Germany during his sabbatical in 2007. He is a nationally and internationally recognized scholar, having published over 85 peer-reviewed contributions and received funding from the Tri-Agency, Canada Foundation for Innovation, and government awards from Saskatchewan. Additionally, Ian is actively involved in the local community, serving as the founding director of the Katepwa Sailing Association, a not-for-profit organization that promotes recreational sailing in the Qu’Appelle Valley.
