Biography

Ian J. Duncan is a Research Scientist at the Bureau of Economic Geology in the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin. With a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, obtained in 1982, his expertise lies in geomechanics and geochemistry, particularly related to the risks associated with CO2 sequestration and hydraulic fracturing. His current research centers on the scientific and environmental public policy aspects of unconventional natural gas production, the water-energy nexus, and carbon capture and storage. He has a particular interest in risk analysis and the legal and regulatory issues surrounding fracking, CO2 sequestration, and CO2-enhanced oil recovery (CO2-EOR). Duncan has presented Congressional testimonies addressing CO2 enhanced oil recovery and carbon sequestration risks and opportunities before the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
