Biography

Ian Glaspole performs translational clinical research on interstitial lung diseases, particularly idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He is the director of the Interstitial Lung Disease Clinic at Alfred Hospital in Melbourne and serves as an adjunct clinical associate professor at Monash University’s School of Translational Medicine. A/Prof Glaspole has a strong research focus and completed his PhD, studying the human cellular immune response to nut allergens. His research is primarily centered on interstitial lung disease and includes numerous clinical trials exploring treatments for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis along with laboratory-based research aimed at improving the quality of life for patients suffering from these rare lung diseases. His research has been funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council, philanthropic contributions, and industry sources. He serves on advisory boards and steering committees for clinical trials related to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and co-chairs the Australian IPF Registry. Additionally, A/Prof Glaspole is a member of several professional organizations, including the Thoracic Society of Australia & New Zealand, the Australian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy, and the Australian Sleep Association.
