Professor Dr. Ian Godsland

Biography

Ian Godsland is an Emeritus Professor of Human Metabolism at Imperial College London. He has been engaged in long-term investigations of metabolic risk factors for diabetes and cardiovascular disease, focusing particularly on a cohort study involving intensive metabolic investigations over 29 years. His primary research interests include the measurement and definition of insulin resistance and insulin secretion, the metabolic syndrome, and the roles of type 2 diabetes in coronary heart disease. He has extensive experience in studying the metabolic risk factor changes associated with the use of gonadal steroids, particularly oral contraceptives and postmenopausal hormone replacement therapies.
