Biography

Ian H. Gotlib is the Marjorie Mhoon Fair Professor of Psychology and the Director of the Stanford Neurodevelopment, Affect, Psychopathology (SNAP) Laboratory at Stanford University. He has held several administrative roles including Senior Associate Dean for Social Sciences and Chair of the Psychology Department. His research focuses on the psychobiological factors that contribute to an increased risk of developing depression and engaging in suicidal behaviors. Gotlib's investigations examine neural, cognitive, social, endocrinological, and genetic factors in depressed individuals and the predictors of depression in children. He is also studying the effects of early life stress on neurodevelopment in boys and girls during puberty, and the brain function and endocrine behavior of neonates in suboptimal environments. He has authored over 500 scientific articles and has received numerous awards for his contributions to understanding psychopathology. He is a fellow of several professional organizations, including the American Psychological Association.
