Biography

Ian Hudson is a Professor and the Department Head of Economics at the University of Manitoba. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Manitoba, obtained in 1999, and has a Master’s degree from the Patterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University. Hudson's research employs a political economy approach to investigate the dynamics of groups within society, particularly focusing on Canada and the United States. His work explores how differing interests within these groups reproduce and utilize economic power to influence political and economic policies. Additionally, he examines ethical consumption, economic history, and economic thought related to inequality. Hudson has served as the Associate Head of the Economics Society Stream from 2022 to 2025 and is involved in various research affiliations, including the Management Committee of the Manitoba Research Alliance and the Steering Committee of the Progressive Economics Forum. He is currently accepting graduate students for Master's and PhD programs.
