Biography

Ian Janssen is a Professor in the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies at Queen's University. His research primarily focuses on Physical Activity Epidemiology. Through his laboratory, Janssen employs epidemiological approaches to investigate the impact of movement behaviors—such as physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep—on the health and well-being of various age groups, including children, youth, and adults. His ongoing research explores critical questions regarding how movement behavior levels have changed across the Canadian population over time, the ideal volumes, durations, intensities, types, and patterns of physical activity necessary for optimal health, as well as the influence of sedentary behaviors on health outcomes. Additionally, Janssen examines how factors within a person's social and built environments, such as schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods, affect levels of movement behavior. He has published over 275 scientific articles and 20 book chapters, making significant contributions to the field of public health.
