Biography

Ian Matthew Kysel is an Associate Clinical Professor at Cornell Law School, where he founded and directs the Transnational Disputes Clinic and serves as faculty co-director of the Migration Human Rights Program. He is also the founder of the Migrant Rights Initiative and the Global Strategic Litigation Council on Refugee Rights. Kysel has contributed significantly to the understanding of international migration and refugee human rights law. His work includes co-directing Cornell’s Asylum Convention Against Torture Appellate Clinic and being the inaugural Global Public Voices Fellow at the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies. Kysel's research interests encompass international migration, refugee human rights law, international dispute resolution, and immigration civil rights law. He has published extensively in numerous law journals and has authored book chapters as well as essays in prominent publications. In addition to his scholarly work, he has been involved in drafting human rights reports and international legal principles to aid refugees and migrants. Before joining Cornell, Kysel held positions at esteemed institutions such as the University of Oxford and the Georgetown University Law Center, and he has a strong background in public interest law through his work with the ACLU. Kysel's educational background includes advanced degrees from Georgetown University Law Center and a BA from Swarthmore College.
