Biography

Ian MacDonald is an Associate Professor at the School of Industrial Relations at the University of Montreal. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from York University. His research interests focus on union renewal, urban geography, and comparative political economy. Prior to joining Montreal, he held teaching and research positions in New York, where he led a collaborative project on union renewal titled 'Unions City: Negotiating Urban Change' (Cornell ILR Press, 2017). This project examined the role of labor organizations in shaping public policy within the arts sector in Toronto and New York. He is currently involved in a participatory action research project with a group of precarious workers in Quebec's archaeology sector, aimed at establishing a collective organization to combat the precariousness faced by these workers under their work conditions.
