Biography

Ian Ostrander is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Michigan State University, where he also serves as the Graduate Program Director. He joined MSU in the summer of 2016 after working as an Assistant Professor at Texas Tech University. Ian received his Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis in 2013. He spent time working in the Senate in 2012-2013 as an APSA Congressional Fellow in Washington D.C. His research and teaching interests primarily concern American political institutions, with a particular emphasis on the U.S. presidency, Congress, and bureaucracy. Ian's research focuses on executive nominations to bureaucratic and judicial posts, presidential policy-making, agenda-setting powers, and the development of Senate procedures, as well as the importance of congressional staff.
