Dr. Ian Rowlands

Biography

Ian Rowlands is a Professor and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies at the University of Waterloo. He has extensive experience in research, teaching, and community engagement focused on energy transitions and management strategies. His interests lie in climate change governance at global, national, and local levels, as well as in international higher education and strategic planning. Ian has served on the Board of Directors for the Waterloo Region Community Energy and has previously worked in advisory roles for the Independent Electricity System Operator and Natural Resources Canada. He has also served as the Associate Vice-President of International at the University of Waterloo, indicating his strong dedication to fostering international collaboration. Ian holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from the University of London, specifically from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a Bachelor of Applied Science and Engineering in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto.
