Biography

Ian Simpson is a Professor of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Edinburgh and the Director of the UKRI Artificial Intelligence Centre for Doctoral Training in Biomedical Innovation. His research focuses on developing novel computational and statistical machine learning methodologies to understand biological systems, with a particular emphasis on brain function and neurological diseases. His current interests include high-throughput data analysis, graph-based approaches for biological data analysis, molecular phylogenetics, and molecular modelling of brain diseases. Simpson is an active member of the RSE Young Academy of Scotland and a Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute. He is also part of the BBSRC Pool of Experts. Simpson actively supervises PhD students and is involved in interdisciplinary biomedical artificial intelligence research.
