Ian obtained a B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Exeter and subsequently a Ph.D. in Radiation Biology from the University of Manchester, where he is now a Professor Emeritus in Pharmacy. He secured continuous program grant support from the Medical Research Council from 1981 to 2010 and received substantive funding from cancer charities and the industry. Ian currently leads a small team involving post-graduate research associates focusing on two main research areas: enhancing the effects of radiotherapy using molecularly targeted drugs and exploiting tumor energy metabolism to improve cancer therapy. In 2015, Ian was awarded the Weiss Medal for his contributions to radiation research. His research interests include tumor hypoxia, anti-cancer drug discovery, and the manipulation of tumor biology for therapeutic benefit. He has dedicated more than 30 years to overcoming challenges associated with hypoxia in tumors, which is a significant barrier in cancer therapy. Ian’s current projects involve evaluating various biological processes related to cancer treatment and development.
Includes MSc in Advanced Electrical Power Systems and MSc in Communications and Signal Processing.
