Dr. Ian Turner

Biography

Professor Ian Turner is a leading expert in Marine and Environmental Engineering with a distinguished academic background including a PhD in Marine Science from the University of Sydney and a Master of Environmental Engineering Science from the University of New South Wales. He has received numerous accolades including being named Australia's top researcher in Marine and Ocean Engineering in 2020 and a Churchill Fellow Nominee in 2016. His current research focuses on innovative measurements and monitoring of coastal environments, forecasting the impacts of climate variability and coastal change, and short-range coastal erosion forecasting. Along with his university duties, he is actively engaged in various professional organizations, having served on the Engineers Australia National Committee on Coastal and Ocean Engineering for over a decade. He is also involved in multiple advisory panels and committees aimed at improving coastal management and engineering practices. As a Visiting Professor at Plymouth University, he continues to contribute to the development of future leaders in marine sciences and engineering, working towards sustainable coastal solutions.
