Biography

Ian Wong is an award-winning designer, collector, and curator currently serving as a Senior Lecturer at Monash University. His research focuses on Australian design history, particularly within the field of industrial design. In 2012, he established the Master of Industrial Design program at the Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School in Suzhou, China. He also plays a crucial role at the Monash Art Design Architecture Industrial Design Centre, located in Kunshan. Notably, Wong was appointed the inaugural Creative Director for the Alastair Swayn Legacy Showcase in 2021. His contributions to Monash University have been recognized with the Distinguished Outstanding Contribution Award in 2023, celebrating a decade of success at the Monash Suzhou campus. Ian has curated numerous design exhibitions and has developed products that range from ceremonial objects to advanced technological equipment. His significant works include the design of the paediatric nebuliser, which is a market leader installed in over 850 hospitals across China, delivering more than 100 million doses to patients. Wong has also been inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Design Institute of Australia in 2023, reflecting his influence and expertise in the field of design.
