Biography

Ib Bondebjerg is a Professor Emeritus at the Department of Media, Cognition, and Communication, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He has an extensive academic background with a BA and MA in Danish Comparative Literature from the University of Copenhagen in 1973, followed by a PhD in Scandinavian Literature in 1978. His academic career includes being an Assistant Associate Professor in the Department of Scandinavian Languages and Literature from 1977 to 1988, a Fulbright Lecturer at UCLA in 1986, and serving as a Docent and later a Research Professor at the Department of Film and Media Studies from 1988 to 1999. Bondebjerg became a full Professor in 2000 and served until 2016. He has held numerous leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Film and Media Studies and Chairman of the Danish Research Council for Humanities. He has contributed significantly to various research projects and has published works focusing on media, culture, and democracy, including titles such as 'English Media, Democracy and European Culture' and 'Engaging Reality: Documentary and Globalization'. Bondebjerg's research interests primarily encompass European film culture, documentary genres, Danish film history, and the relationship between media and democracy.
