Dr. Iben Thomsen

Biography

Iben Margrete Thomsen is a Senior Advisor in Forest Bioresources at the University of Copenhagen, closely associated with the Department of Geosciences and Nature Resource Management. She specializes in forest pathology and has been instrumental in monitoring forest health across Denmark. Her expertise encompasses a range of fungal diseases affecting various tree species, as well as the impact of abiotic factors on forest ecosystems. Dr. Thomsen's work includes significant research on Chalara ash dieback caused by Hymenoscyphus fraxineus, and her studies on the pathogens Heterobasidion annosum and Armillaria root rot have contributed to the understanding of tree health. Throughout her career, she has also focused on urban forestry, particularly in the management of hazard trees and the health of street trees within urban landscapes. Dr. Thomsen holds a Ph.D. in Forest Pathology from the Royal Veterinary Agricultural University and has authored several studies that highlight the interdependence of tree diseases and biodiversity in forested regions.
