Biography

Ibrahim Karaman is a Professor and Department Head in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University. With a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, he specializes in advanced materials and their processing. His research interests focus on deformation annealing, twinning induced grain boundary engineering, and the development of ultrafine grain nanostructured materials. He is particularly known for his work on shape memory alloys and high-strength steels, characterized by low stacking fault energy. Moreover, he investigates novel processing methods for high-temperature shape memory alloys, achieving excellent cyclic stability and resistance to fatigue and creep. Karaman has made significant contributions to the fabrication and deformation studies of bulk nanocrystalline materials and has developed a MagnetoThermoMechanical testing system for characterization of magnetic shape memory alloys. He has been awarded multiple honors for his work, including the Robert Lansing Hardy Award and the Select Young Faculty Award from the Texas Engineering Experiment Station.
