Dr. Idalina Baptista

Biography

Idalina Baptista holds a DPhil and MSc in Sustainable Urban Development and is a Fellow member of the Oxford Network for Future Cities. She has taught various themes related to urban planning and environmental management at institutions including the University of California, Berkeley, New University of Lisbon, and Universidade Atlântica. With extensive experience as an environmental planning consultant and in academia, she currently teaches the MSc Sustainable Urban Development focusing on Urban Theory and contributes to doctoral seminars. Her research interests include colonial and post-colonial geographies, urban energy infrastructure, and urbanization in African cities, particularly examining governance and electricity services in Sub-Saharan Africa. Idalina works on multiple projects, including community energy transitions in Ethiopia, Malawi, and Mozambique, and is involved in understanding socio-political factors in conflict-laden urban areas. Her publications cover topics in urban studies, energy justice, and sustainable urbanization.
