Dr. Ido Levin

Biography

Ido Levin is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Chemistry and Mathematics at the University of British Columbia. His research focuses on the design and fabrication of programmable active materials that mimic natural systems. His work aims to advance the field of soft matter and material chemistry by integrating innovative fabrication techniques with geometric modeling to create materials capable of shape transformation through multi-responsiveness to various stimuli. Levin's research encompasses the development of self-oscillating gels and synthetic lipid membranes that can self-organize and respond dynamically to environmental changes. He employs both analytical and numerical approaches to understand the mechanics of soft-matter systems, including phenomena such as shape transitions and pattern formation in biological and engineered membranes. Levin's academic background includes postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Washington and a Ph.D. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he specializes in the intersection of physics and chemistry.
