Biography

Ieke Moerdijk studied Mathematics and Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam, receiving a PhD in Mathematics in 1985 with distinction, Cum Laude. He has worked at the University of Chicago and the University of Cambridge before joining the Mathematics Department at Utrecht University in 1988. In 2011, he moved to Radboud University Nijmegen, returning to Utrecht University in 2016. Moerdijk has been awarded various fellowships including the Huygens Fellowship from NWO in 1986 and the PIONIER grant in 1995. He was elected as a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2006 and Academia Europaea in 2014. In 2011, he received the Descartes-Huygens Prize from the Académie des Sciences and in 2012 the Spinoza Prize from NWO. He has held visiting positions at prestigious institutions such as St John's College in Cambridge, McGill University in Montreal, and the University of Sydney. His research interests encompass algebraic differential topology and the applications of topological structures in mathematical logic. He is a co-author of notable books including "Sheaves in Geometry and Logic" with S. Mac Lane and "Introduction to Foliations and Lie Groupoids" with J. Mrcun. His current work focuses on the development of the theory of dendroidal sets.
