Biography

Ifan leads the Interfacial Electrochemistry Group at the Department of Materials at Imperial College London. He joined in July 2017 after serving as a postdoctoral researcher, assistant professor, and eventually associate professor at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). During his time at DTU, he led the Electrocatalysis Group and was appointed as the Peabody Visiting Associate Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). At MIT, he taught and conducted research in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Ifan's research focuses on enabling large-scale electrochemical conversion of renewable energy into valuable chemicals and fuels, critically supporting the increased uptake of renewable energy. His work primarily deals with electrocatalysts that define the efficiency of essential electrochemical processes, including electrolysis for energy storage, fuel cell technology, and green chemical synthesis. His contributions led to the founding of the company HPNow, which is involved in innovative hydrogen peroxide production. Ifan actively provides opportunities for ambitious individuals to apply for postdoctoral fellowships in his research group and encourages direct contact for prospective PhD applications.
