Biography

Ifigeneia Dimitrakou is a Group Leader in Social Geography and Urban Studies at the University of Zurich. She holds a PhD in Urban Planning Design & Policies from Politecnico di Milano and a Master of Science in Urbanism from TU Delft, both with honors, as well as a degree in Architecture from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with distinction. Her research primarily focuses on housing production within the built environment, social reproduction, and socio-spatial inequality. She investigates social relations, power dynamics, and the complexities of accessing housing and home. Notable past research includes examining housing vacancy processes in post-crisis Athens and current studies on the governance of temporary housing in Swiss cities, supported by the UZH Postdoctoral Grant. Dimitrakou has also contributed to various projects in Greece, including the ISTOPOL project and studies on micro-segregation, funded by the Onassis Foundation. Her work aims to analyze socio-legal dimensions of property use and its impact on social dynamics in the rental market.
