Dr. Ignace Maduku

Biography

Ignace Ndongala Maduku is an assistant professor at the Institute of Religious Studies at the University of Montreal. His teaching focuses on decolonial approaches in theology and religious sciences, Christianity, theology, rites and symbols, as well as contemporary issues in theology. His current research centers on the decolonization of theological knowledge, sociopolitical discourse, priestly masculinities, and sexual abuse within the clergy. Before joining UdeM, he taught for about fifteen years at the International Training Center Lumen Vitae in Belgium. He has also served as the secretary of the Association of African Theologians. Regarding his academic qualifications, Ignace Ndongala Maduku holds a Doctorate in Religious Sciences from UdeM, a Doctorate in Theology from the Catholic Institute of Paris, and a Doctorate in Religious Anthropology and History from the University of Paris IV-Sorbonne. He is also a guest professor at the International Training Center Lumen Vitae in Belgium and coordinates activities for the Group of African and Afro-descendant Theologies (Canada) and the Center for Research and Studies in Religion, Development, and Culture (Democratic Republic of Congo).
