Biography

Ignacio Aravena Gonzalez is a LSE Fellow in Real Estate Economics and Finance at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He began his academic journey at LSE in 2020, pursuing a PhD and focusing on the intersection of urban regulation, real estate markets, and neighborhood dynamics. His research particularly emphasizes causal inference and spatial analysis applied to real estate markets and housing land policies. Before his role at LSE, Ignacio completed a Master’s degree in Urban Planning at New York University, focusing on housing policy and real estate tools aimed at fostering thriving, equitable cities. He also holds a Master’s degree in Real Estate from Universidad de Chile and a Bachelor's Professional Degree in Construction Engineering. Throughout his decade-long career, Ignacio has worked as an independent consultant, engaging in applied research and teaching primarily in real estate economics and finance, housing policy, segregation, poverty, land use regulation, and program evaluation. His current research is concentrated on the impacts of land use policies on affordable housing production and population dynamics in metropolitan areas, as well as exploring the effects of Chilean social unrest on real estate markets.
