Dr. Ignacio Cruz

Biography

Ignacio Fernandez Cruz is an Assistant Professor in the School of Communication at Northwestern University. His expertise resides at the intersection of new ways of organizing and the socio-technical practices entwined with artificial intelligence technologies and employees. Dr. Cruz focuses on the dynamic shifts of knowledge and expertise within today's workforce. He is currently engaged in projects exploring hiring and selection practices that utilize AI in talent acquisition, emphasizing communication technologies that promote fairness, accountability, and equity. Additionally, Dr. Cruz is dedicated to understanding the rapid advancements in digital technologies and platforms that transform work arrangements and reshape personnel practices. His scholarship has been featured in various outlets across communication studies, management, and information studies research. He has received several research awards from the National Communication Association and the International Communication Association. Prior to joining Northwestern, Dr. Cruz was a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow and a Ronald E. McNair Scholar. His research was supported by National Science Foundation fellowships during his time at the University of Southern California and the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Cruz earned his Ph.D. in Communication from the Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California.
