Biography

Ignacio Gonzalez-Alvarez is an Assistant Professor and Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia. Born in Spain, he holds a BSc and MSc from the University of Oviedo, specializing in stratigraphy and sedimentary basin analysis, and a PhD in geochemistry of sedimentary systems from the University of Saskatchewan. Ignacio has extensive geological research experience, having worked on mineral exploration projects across five continents, including North America, Australia, and Europe. His research at CSIRO focuses on the geochemical characterization of trace elements, particularly rare earth elements (REE) and high field strength elements (HFSE), and their mobility in the Earth's crust. He is actively involved in coordinating multi-disciplinary data integration projects and serves on various advisory boards to promote Earth Sciences. Ignacio has also held editorial positions in several international journals and actively participates in the Australian geoscience community through organizations and conferences.
