Dr. Igor Grossmann

Biography

Igor Grossmann is a Professor at the University of Waterloo, specializing in psychology. He received his PhD from the University of Michigan. His research focuses on how individuals make sense of the world around them, particularly the expectations, lay theories, meta-cognitions, and cultural forces that influence human behavior and societal change. Currently, he conducts research on AI-augmented cognition, wise reasoning, intellectual humility, perspective-taking, and mindfulness. His work emphasizes the use of psychometric and computational modeling methods along with behavioral experiments to understand how people navigate societal challenges. He collaborates with scholars from various disciplines, applying a range of methods to bridge analysis techniques, ultimately understanding how humans interpret and respond to societal changes. Grossmann's contributions to the field include publications addressing the interplay between wisdom and societal issues, offering insights into culturally informed attitudes and behaviors. He leads the Wisdom Culture Lab, which welcomes graduate student applications for Fall 2026.
