Biography

Igor Lehnherr obtained his BSc from the University of Victoria and completed a PhD at the University of Alberta, focusing on environmental science in northern regions, which stemmed from his experiences growing up in the Yukon. He held the W. Garfield Weston Postdoctoral Fellowship at Northern Research and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Toronto Mississauga. He teaches courses related to environmental change, contaminants, and biogeochemistry. His research combines ecosystem-scale field studies with controlled experiments and emerging analytical techniques to understand the impact of environmental stressors and climate change on Arctic, Boreal, and alpine ecosystems. Current projects include studying the effects of climate change on mercury cycling, reconstructing long-term trends of atmospheric mercury using various natural archives, and examining the transport and fate of organic contaminants in northern landscapes. He invites motivated students to join his research team at various educational levels.
