Dr. Igor Pivkin

Biography

Igor V. Pivkin is a full professor at the Institute of Computing at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI). He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Mathematics from Novosibirsk State University, Russia, followed by an M.Sc. degree in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Brown University, USA. Prior to his current role, he served as a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. Professor Pivkin's research interests focus on multiscale and multiphysics modeling, specifically the numerical methods for parallel large-scale simulations of biological and physical systems. His specific areas of expertise include biophysics, cellular and molecular biomechanics, stochastic multiscale modeling, and coarse-grained molecular simulations. He is adept in high performance computing methodologies and particle-based simulation techniques.
