Dr. Igor Tempels Moreno Pessoa

Biography

Igor Tempels Moreno Pessoa is an Assistant Professor at the University of Twente, specializing in Urban Governance within the Faculty of Behavioural, Management, and Social Sciences. He obtained his PhD from Delft University of Technology, where he also became a Comenius Teaching Fellow. His research centers on the interaction between public institutions and civic initiatives, with a goal to foster resilient cities through effective urban governance. Prior to joining the University of Twente, he served as a research coordinator at the Centre for Urban Studies at the University of Amsterdam. His academic expertise spans Earth and Planetary Sciences, Urban Political Ecology, Decision-Making, and the relationship between public organizations and residents to address societal challenges. Tempels Moreno Pessoa employs qualitative research methods which include in-depth interviews and ethnographical observation, and has made significant contributions through his publications, including articles on self-organization and the fragmentation of urban spaces. He teaches courses in Public Governance Legitimacy and Urban Governance, supervising bachelor and master theses as part of the BSc Management, Society & Technology and MSc Public Administration programs.
