Biography

Professor Dame Ijeoma Uchegbu, DBE, FMedSci, is the President of Wolfson College at the University of Cambridge and a Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience at University College London. She is a fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and an honorary fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Uchegbu has served as Chair of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences and as the Scientific Secretary of the Controlled Release Society. Uchegbu is the Chief Scientific Officer of Nanomerics Ltd., a company focusing on developing medicines to treat sight-threatening diseases. Her research has garnered numerous accolades, including awards from the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. Her inventions have also led to licensed medicines, contributing significantly to the biomedical field. Uchegbu was recognized as a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 2025 for her contributions to science and society.
