Biography

Ike Silver investigates how organizations and individuals communicate morality and tactics for signaling virtue to their audiences. His research primarily focuses on consumer responses to corporate social responsibility initiatives and how public figures navigate political controversy. Silver aims to explain the moral charge that underlies issues such as authenticity, generosity, virtue signaling, outrage culture, and self-censorship. His studies also delve into the fundamental processes of human judgment and decision-making. He has published research in leading marketing and psychology journals, including Marketing Science, Psychological Science, and the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General. Silver teaches Marketing Strategy at USC Marshall and has previously taught at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management. He holds a PhD in Marketing Psychology from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a BA in Cognitive Science from Yale University. Prior to graduate school, he worked at Bridgewater Associates.
