Ilana R. Schroeder is a Lecturer in Musicology at the Mead Witter School of Music. She holds a bachelor’s degree in viola performance from the New England Conservatory of Music, a master’s degree in music history from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and a Ph.D. in historical musicology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her dissertation examined the liturgical and paraliturgical music of Paris in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. In her teaching, she explores premodern and premodern-adjacent music culture and how these topics influence and define modern culture and society. Her current research interests investigate the translation and movement of music bodies in the Middle Ages, as well as the relationship between community, identity, and exclusion.
