Dr. Ilaria Espa

Biography

Ilaria Espa is an Associate Professor of International Economic Law at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) and a Senior Research Fellow at the World Trade Institute (WTI) in Bern. She also holds an adjunct professorship at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan. Ilaria has a strong academic background, with a PhD in International Law from Bocconi University and post-doctoral studies funded by a Marie Curie fellowship. Her research interests lie in international economic law with a particular focus on trade regulation, international environmental law, and EU law. She has published extensively on the intersection of trade and sustainability, addressing issues such as climate change and the sustainable management of natural resources. Ilaria has contributed to leading journals in her field and has authored significant works, including a monograph on export restrictions of critical minerals and a co-edited volume on regulatory challenges in international trade and sustainable electricity. Furthermore, she has received multiple awards for her contributions to international law and serves on several boards and committees related to sustainable development and trade law.
