Biography

Ilaria Rebay is a Professor at the University of Chicago. Her research focuses on understanding signaling networks, cytoskeletal dynamics, and tissue geometry, and how these factors work together to drive specific developmental decisions. Using Drosophila as a tractable model system, she explores the cell fates specified to organize functional tissues and organs. Rebay's multidisciplinary experimental approach incorporates molecular genetics, genomics, quantitative imaging, biochemistry, and mathematical modeling. Current projects in her lab are concentrated on transcriptional networks and the cellular mechanisms that regulate and stabilize the transition from uncommitted progenitor cells to specified fate, as well as the signaling mechanisms and the tissue-level biomechanical properties that drive terminal differentiation and morphogenesis.
