Biography

Ileana Parvu holds a degree in Art History, Classical Archaeology, and Modern German Literary Studies from the Universities of Basel, Paris IV Sorbonne, Panthéon-Sorbonne, and the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) in Paris. She earned her DEA in Art History in 1997 and completed her doctorate in 2002, for which she received the Faculty Prize from the University of Basel. Parvu has been awarded scholarships from the Swiss National Fund (SNF) and has held various teaching positions, including responsibilities in Modern Art History at the University of Basel and later at the University of Geneva. She was a visiting fellow at the National Institute for Art History George Oprescu in Bucharest, Romania. Parvu's research focuses on the history and theory of sculpture from 1760 to 1990, the work of painters in sculpture around the turn of the century, the theory of genre crossing, and the investigation of the materiality of art in the 20th and 21st centuries. She has contributed to the field through her project on contemporary artistic practices and has been involved in exploring Eastern European contemporary art and the conceptual and post-conceptual art movements.
