Dr. Ilene Hyman

Biography

Ilene Hyman is a faculty member in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. With an extensive background in community health, she specializes in health equity, mental health, and immigrant health. Hyman's research interests encompass gender health and social equity, focusing on marginalized communities. She has contributed significantly to understanding the intersectionality of health determinants impacting immigrant and refugee populations. Hyman has a diverse academic background, having earned degrees in physical therapy, health science, and community health, with a specialization in epidemiology. She completed her post-doctoral fellowship at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, where she focused on community health studies. Over the years, Hyman has served in various expert advisory roles and is actively involved in numerous research projects that aim to improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations. Her teaching responsibilities include mentoring students in implementation science and supervising public health practicum students. Hyman is passionate about advancing research that addresses health disparities and contributes to policy-making for inclusive health practices.
